Visa Guidelines for Entering Bangladesh

Visa on Arrival

To promote tourism and ensure hassle-free entry, Visa on Arrival is available for foreign nationals under the conditions listed below. Upon arrival at airports or land ports, the immigration authority may grant a Visa on Arrival for a maximum duration of 30 days, subject to the following criteria:

1. No Diplomatic Mission in the Visitor’s Country:
• Foreign nationals from countries without a Bangladeshi diplomatic mission may receive a Visa on Arrival after verification of the purpose of their visit.
2. Business and Investment Visits:
• Foreign investors or businesspersons with an invitation letter attested by the Board of Investment (BOI) or BEPZA can avail this facility. The inviting organization must notify the immigration authority in advance about the visitor's arrival.
3. Eligible Countries:
• Citizens of USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Russian Federation, China, Japan, Singapore, Malaysia, South Korea, UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, Oman, Bahrain, and European countries may obtain a Visa on Arrival for official duty, business, investment, or tourism purposes.
4. Third-Country Arrival:
• Foreign nationals arriving from a third country where no Bangladeshi mission is available are eligible for this facility.
5. Bangladeshi Origin Foreign Nationals:
• Individuals of Bangladeshi origin, their spouses, and children may receive a Visa on Arrival upon proof of their heritage.
6. UN and Diplomatic Personnel:
• Officials from foreign missions, the UN, or affiliated organizations in Bangladesh can receive a Visa on Arrival upon presenting valid appointment letters or documentation. Holders of UN passports are exempt from visa fees.

Visa on Arrival Fee

• Fee: $51 USD per person or equivalent in other currencies.

Transit Visa

For travelers awaiting connecting flights, a Transit Visa can be issued for up to 72 hours or until the next available flight. To obtain this visa:

• Fee: $20 USD or equivalent foreign currency.
• Process: The amount must be deposited into the designated bank account before proceeding to explore the beauty of Bangladesh during your layover.

Visa Extension

Visitors who wish to extend their stay and continue exploring the wonders of Bangladesh can apply for a visa extension. This can be done through the Department of Immigration and Passport Authority, following the existing visa policy.

Visa Requirements

To ensure smooth processing of Visa on Arrival, the following criteria must be met:

1. Visa fees must be paid in foreign currencies such as USD, GBP, or EUR.
2. Visitors must have a minimum of $500 USD (or equivalent) in cash or credit card.
3. A confirmed return ticket is required.

5. Visitors from countries exempt from visa fees will not be charged.
6. Visa fees and issuance are based on reciprocal agreements.
7. Immigration authorities will collect necessary visitor information for security purposes and report monthly to the Ministry of Home Affairs.
8. Approval from the Ministry of Home Affairs is mandatory for foreign military or defense personnel.
