🛡️ Air Defence Clearance (ADC): Critical Guidelines for Operating Within Bangladesh ADIZ

In the interest of national security and controlled airspace management, Bangladesh has officially established an Air Defence Identification Zone (ADIZ) that spans the entirety of its territory, including land borders with India and Myanmar, and extends southward into the Bay of Bengal. This ADIZ functions as the first line of defence against unauthorised aerial incursions.

All foreign and local aircraft, whether civilian or military, must obtain an Air Defence Clearance (ADC) number before operating into, through, or within the Bangladesh ADIZ.

🔍 Key Highlights of Bangladesh ADIZ and ADC Procedures

📍 Coverage Area:
The ADIZ extends across Bangladesh’s international borders and sea boundaries defined by the following coordinates:

a) 210744.80N 891356.50E
b) 181554.12N 892147.56E
c) 164328.74N 892554.37E
d) 175234.06N 901504.66E
e) 200332.00N 915031.80E

(Full coordinates available in AIP ENR 5.2-3)

✈️ ADC Requirement Overview

  1. Mandatory for All Flights:

    • All non-domestic and international flights must secure ADC before entering the Bangladesh ADIZ.

    • Local airport operations within the Dhaka FIR below 1000 ft AGL are exempt from this requirement.

  2. Application Timing:

    • Aircraft entering Bangladesh ADIZ must request ADC at least 10 minutes in advance.

    • If departing from adjacent FIRs where prior notice isn’t feasible, ADC must be obtained before takeoff.

  3. Validity:

    • One ADC number is valid for the full route, including stopovers.

    • For delays over 2 hours, a new ADC number is mandatory.

  4. Contact Failures:

    • If unable to reach ATC before departure, aircraft may take off with onboard radio contact to obtain ADC once airborne.

🧭 Notable Exceptions

  • Domestic and State aircraft operations are currently exempt from ADC.

  • Flights on ATS routes P646, M895, M770, L524, W112 are exempt unless deviating toward landmass.

  • General Aviation aircraft operating to airfields without ATC must contact the nearest BAF ATC Unit.

📡 Emergency Contact Protocol

  • If unable to contact ATS, pilots must establish communication with the nearest Air Defence Unit via 6826 Hz or 500 Hz HF frequency.

  • Unauthorised or unidentified entries into ADIZ are subject to interception by Bangladesh Air Force Interceptor Aircraft as per ICAO standards.
